A sweet gift for the homebound

Keystone Meals on Wheels recipients got a sweet treat in April, thanks to a participant in Keystone's Active Seniors events. Mary, who comes to Keystone for movies and outings, gave 96 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to Keystone for distribution to the homebound elderly and disabled adults who depend on Meals on Wheels for a daily nutritious meal. "My granddaughter was selling Girl Scout cookies, and I ordered from her," said Mary, who calls the Active Seniors program "such a nice thing in my life."

Meals on Wheels volunteers distributed the cookies to recipients during their daily delivery rounds. Jeanne Leifeld, program director of the Active Seniors and Meals on Wheels programs, said she heard from a number of Meals on Wheels clients who were surprised with the delicious gift. "It was such a nice gesture on Mary's part, and our clients were delighted."
