Assessments
Students are given the Northwest Evaluation Assessment Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Assessment survey without goals upon intake to determine their instructional level. They are then given the MAP Assessment survey with goals during the next available testing window and are tested every six months after to determine academic growth. Students are also given all of the state-mandated tests throughout the year such as the MCA II and MCA II GRAD tests, ELL and MTELL tests as necessary. Results of the state mandated tests are sent to the student’s home and to the student’s home school district.
Curriculum
Students in the program can earn 4.5 or more high school credits per quarter. There are four quarters in the regular school year and then students are required to attend the program’s summer school which runs for five and a half weeks. Each student is enrolled in four core classes, one elective class and two groups daily in which they can earn credit hours. School is in session Monday – Friday from 9-4. At the end of each quarter a report card is sent to the student’s home and to the student’s home school district so that credit hours and transcripts can be updated.
Credit recovery
Credit recovery is offered after the regular school day from 4-5:30 pm Monday – Thursday. It is taught by a licensed teacher and every student has the opportunity to enroll in credit recovery. Classes are determined by student need. If a student enrolls in the credit recovery program they are able to earn an additional .75 credit each quarter.
School transition support
When a student completes the program and transitions to another school, IDT staff monitor that student for six weeks or more based on how well the student is doing. IDT staff make school visits and collect daily transition sheets from the student to see how well they are doing in their classes and how their behavior has been at school. IDT staff keeps in close contact with school personnel in order to help the student’s transition be a success.
