Rewards in retirement

When Jim retired last year after a three-decade career at Travelers Insurance, he was looking for something meaningful to do with his free time. He saw a notice in a local newspaper that Keystone Community Services needed volunteer drivers for the Meals on Wheels program. It turns out Jim's own mother, living in outstate Minnesota, had received Meals on Wheels for five years and Jim recalls what a difference it made for his family. "My mother lived with my sister who had to go to work every day, so Mom was home alone. Having a meal delivered each day helped our family a great deal," he said. So now once a week, Jim returns the favor by delivering nutritious meals to homebound elderly and disabled residents in Keystone's large service area, including Merriam Park and the Midway neighborhoods. "It's very rewarding work," he said.

Keystone Meals on Wheels serves up to 90 area residents each day, Monday through Friday. Volunteer drivers are always needed. Click here to find out more about becoming a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
